The Gold Standard for 96% Keyboards

I placed an order for this keyboard as soon as it went public as it combined my three needs: a 96% layout + QMK/VIA compatibility + Tri-Mode, something that my Q5 (non-Pro, non-Max) does not have. As soon as I built my keyboard, however, the V5 Max quickly became my daily driver, so my Q5 has been relegated to being a showpiece for some of my more premium switches and components. This is something that I will mention for those who hesitate on this keyboard solely because it is not made out of aluminum (e.g., the Q series) - the plastics Keychron uses in the V series not only help to reduce fingerprints but also contribute to a deeper and more resonant sound signature (i.e., "thocky" as TikTok would say), especially combined with PBT keycaps and appropriate switches (e.g., TTC Gold Brown Pros).

My only recommendation for Keychron at this point would be per-key RGB but I have a hunch they might be reserving this functionality in the future to their Lemokey lineup ;)

Best keyboard I've ever used, fully converted to mechanical keyboards.

For context: This is my first mechanical keyboard, so I'm not going to have the most critical eye. Prior to this purchase, I only used cheap but consistent keyboards like the Logitech K120.

Coming from the Logitech K120, I had a few concerns:

- Key Spacing: The K120 is a 100% layout with fairly wide spacing on the keys. Fortunately, typing has felt entirely natural on this keyboard, no issues with accuracy (and the key caps feel great).

- Wireless Performance: This has been perfectly smooth so far using the 2.4ghz dongle. Love that it comes with both USB-A and USB-C dongles, since I can use one for my work laptop and one for my personal PC without having to switch them around (just can't have both plugged-in at the same time).

- Key Switches: I ended-up going with the Reds since I didn't have a great sense of what would feel comparable to the K120; I just didn't want it to feel strange or sound too loud. Turns-out, Reds were perfect; quiet, smooth, and small weightiness in the key action that feels very satisfying.

Overall, everything about my experience with this keyboard has been positive & communicates that a team of people thoughtfully considered all angles on both presentation and performance. Highly recommend!

Fantastic keyboard at a great price!

I got the barebones keyboard! I also picked up the keychron mints and double shot ABS keycaps. The build was great and the accessories were high quality! The only issue was the stabilizer on the enter key (on the numpad) wasn’t screwed down correctly. It was a relatively easy fix after taking apart the housing.

An Epic Core Inside The Keyboard

A powerful ARM architecture MCU equipped with 256K Flash will provide more flexibility for developers. The polling rate is 1000 Hz right out of the box, which makes the latency hardly noticeable even in competitive games.

OSA Profile Double-shot PBT Keycaps

These double-shot PBT keycaps have a similar height to the OEM profile and has an SA-like shape. We named it the OSA (OEM spherical angled) keycap. The PBT keycaps will provide excellent oil resistance, enhance the type feel, and prevent the legends from fading out.
